External undergraduate medical students who intend on taking part in short-term academic research programs at FMUSP have the option of choosing between 22 different topics offered by some of our Medical School’s departments and their fields of investigation, including Surgery, Clinical Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Pathology, Dermatology, Cardiopneumology, Radiology and Oncology, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Physiotherapy/Speech Therapy/Occupational Therapy and Legal Medicine/Medical Ethics/Social and Occupational Medicine, respectively.

The following list includes all of their main research lines as well as the professionals engaged in leading these programs and tutoring participants throughout the courses.


The Lipid Laboratory is linked to the Department of Clinical Medicine.

Lines of research: investigation of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, with emphasis on reverse cholesterol transport, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, inflammation and lifestyle interventions (diet and physical exercise) in humans and models of experimental atherosclerosis.

The Rheumatology Research Laboratory is linked to the Department of Clinical Medicine.
