Considered a simple method to diagnose pulmonary diseases, lung ultrasonography can also help predict the clinical evolution of patients with Covid-19 in severe condition, points out a study conducted at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP).
Under the coordination of the physician Heraldo Possolo de Souza, researchers applied an examination protocol based on the analysis of 12 lung regions in 180 patients with Covid-19 admitted to the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of FMUSP. The group found that the higher the score obtained in the evaluation, the higher the risk of hospitalization in ICU, intubation and death.
The research data, supported by The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), were disclosed in an article published in the journal Annals of Intensive Care.
