Prof. Jorge Elias Kalil Filho, of the Medical Clinic Department of the Medical School of the Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), Titular Professor of the Clinical Immunology and Allergy Discipline and Director of the Immunology Laboratory of the Heart Institute of the Hospital das Clínicas, was invited to participate in a group of specialists who will revise, recommend and monitor every clinical trial of vaccines against the Covid-19, supported by the government of the United States of America.

The invitation for Prof. Jorge Kalil to become a member of the council of Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) was made by Dr. Anthony Stephen Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). “It is, undoubtedly, a position of great responsibility and prestige. As a professor of this house, this invitation demonstrates once more the respect and admiration for our Medical School of USP”, says Prof. Jorge Kalil.

The DSMB is going to be composed of individuals of several disciplines and will include clinics, ethics experts, statistics and other scientists. The first teleconference meeting will be scheduled for the end of June of 2020. “The DSMB recommendations will have important implications for public health in a global scale”, states Dr. Anthony Fauci.
