The Medal of the Order of Medical Merit and the Medal of Merit Oswaldo Cruz were awarded to professors from the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) and professionals from the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of FMUSP, according to a decree published in the National Federal Register, on July 28, 2021, signed by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro.
The Medal of the Order of Medical Merit is awarded to doctors who have provided outstanding services to the country or who have distinguished themselves both in the profession, in teaching or in the production of relevant content for the development of other studies in the area. The winners, in the Grand-Officer class, were Profa. Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, from the Department of Clinical Medicine at FMUSP and Clinical Director at HCFMUSP and Prof. Jorge Elias Kalil Filho, from the Department of Clinical Medicine at FMUSP and Director of the Immunology Laboratory at Instituto do Coração (InCor) at HCFMUSP. Prof. Protasio Lemos da Luz, Senior in Cardiology at InCor of HCFMUSP also received the honor.
The Oswaldo Cruz Medal of Merit is awarded to people who perform scientific, educational, cultural and administrative activities related to public health in general, with significant contributions to the physical and mental well-being of brazilians. In the Bronze category, the honor was assigned to physiotherapist Adriana Sayuri Hirota, from HCFMUSP.
