The Board of the Faculdade de Medicina da USP (FMUSP) received, on the 3rd of June 2021, the members of the Board of Directors of the Polytechnic School of USP (EPUSP) for the delivery of the ASL5000 automated buffer simulator, which was installed at LIM-09, Pneumology Laboratory, which has Prof. Carlos Roberto Ribeiro de Carvalho and Prof. Marcelo Britto Steps of Amato as coordinators.

“Thanks to more than a decade of cooperation between the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic School and the Discipline of Pulmonology of FMUSP, at this time of pandemic, we were able to develop a mechanic ventilator  that is being used in various parts of the country”, says Prof. Carlos Carvalho.

The Professor also highlights that “to test this equipment in the laboratory we needed a microprocessor simulator that we didn't have in our Unit. With the support of Polytechnic engineers, we received the simulator ASL5000, to be used in our Animal ICU at FMUSP.

"It’s fundamental for testing artificial respirators and provide training for students and residents in the area of ​​Medicine and Physiotherapy”, emphasizes Prof. Carlos Carvalho.

To further seal this partnership were gathered Prof. Tarcisio Eloy Pessoa de Barros Filho, Director of FMUSP, prof. Roger Chammas, Deputy Director of FMUSP, Prof. Carlos Carvalho and Prof. Marcelo Amato, both from Department of Cardiopneumology and LIM-09, Prof. Liedi Légi Bariani Bernucci, Director of EPUSP, Prof. Reinaldo Giudici, Vice-Director of EPUSP, Prof. Marcelo Zuffo and Prof. Raul Gonzalez, both researchers at EPUSP.
