Prof. José Eluf Neto, who died in January of this year, was one of the pioneers in the country and an internationally recognized figure in the field of Cancer Epidemiology. He was Head of Preventive Medicine Department at FMUSP. For almost a decade, he held the position of Executive Director of the LIMs, committed to the management of institutional research, with an emphasis on transparency, ethics and open communication. The event was opened by Prof. Eloisa Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, Director of FMUSP and Director General of LIMs, together with Prof. Marcia Thereza Couto, Head of Preventive Medicine Department, and Prof. Ulysses Ribeiro Júnior, Executive Director of LIMs. Prof. Bonfá highlighted the inquisitive nature of Prof. Eluf, something that, according to her, should be a hallmark of the institution. She expressed immense gratitude to the teacher's family for sharing "for so many years such a special person" and who leaves a "legacy that will never be forgotten".
Then Prof. Moisés Goldbaum led a discussion that included the participation of three Professors and former colleagues of the honoree. Prof. Nelson da Cruz Gouveia discussed the influence of Prof. Eluf in undergraduate and graduate teaching, while Prof. Roger Chammas addressed his institutional trajectory and Prof. Victor Wünsch Filho addressed his contributions to the field of cancer epidemiology.
