The Santander Bank welcomes, on May 16th, eight scholarship students of the Medical School of the Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), who, with the support of the financial institution, took part in an interchange to Harvard University, at the United States, in 2018.
At the Farol Santander, in São Paulo, the scholarship holders, the leadership of the Medical School and the executives of the Santander Bank, which, since 2010, already assigned more than 120 scholarships. This interchange for graduate students to Harvard has been happening since 2000, idealized by Prof. Paulo Saldiva, Titular professor of the Department of Pathology, which, over the years, has been consolidating itself, due to the merits of the students.
The scholarship holder Brendha Cação declared gratitude to the FMUSP partnerships with the Santander Bank, the Foundation Faculty of Medicine and the Zerbini Foundation, who made possible experiences such as hers, and change the personal and professional life of the students. “I could work with amazing people and incredible projects, I was able to reinforce the passion for science and to make sure research and innovation will be present in my future medical career”, says Brendha.
The students were accompanied by Prof. Yassuhiko Okay, Head of Office of the FMUSP Director’s Board, representing the Director, Prof. Tarcisio E. P. de Barros Filho, by Prof. Aluisio A. C. Segurado, President of the International Relations Committee of FMUSP, and by Prof. Jose Otavio C. Auler Junior, Vice-President of the Foundation Faculty of Medicine.
“This encounter was very relevant to know the stories of the students and actually turn tangible the investments we have made in higher education”, says José Roberto Machado, Director of the Private Individual, from Santander.
The following Santander members also took part in the event: Afrânio Pereira, Commercial Superintendent for Universities, Alessandra Mendonça, Commercial Manager for Universities, Daniele Scadola, Institutional Program Manager for Universities, Karine Bueno, Head of Sustainability and Claudenice Duarte, Head of External Communication. Besides, Steven Assis, Head of Santander Universities, who declared: “we have been acting consistently for the stimuli of formation”. Assis complemented “by the opportunities we had of talking with these scholarship students, it is clear the Harvard Program is aligned with this work by promoting a unique experience which will transform the career of these young adults.
